Litir ó Chairde / A Letter from Cairde

Dear Parents & Guardians,

A very warm welcome — especially to those who are new to Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann.   We would like to take this opportunity to introduce “Cairde” — the Irish word for friends, and the perfect reflection of who we are and what we strive to be within our school community. ''Cairde'' is our school’s Parents’ Association: a dedicated group of volunteer parents and guardians working in partnership with teachers, staff, and students to support and enhance school life for everyone.

About Cairde

Cairde operates under the guidance of the National Parents Council (NPC), which provides valuable resources and advice to help parents support their children through primary education.   Under the Education Act of 1998, every Parent Association plays an important role in building partnerships between home and school. Cairde works closely with the Principal, staff, and Board of Management to:

• Contribute to school policy discussions.

• Organise extra-curricular and community activities.

• Support communication and cooperation among parents.

How Cairde Works

Each class has a Class Representative, elected by the parents, who serves as a link between their class group and Cairde. The representative manages the class WhatsApp group, sharing relevant information about school and Cairde-related events. Participation in the group is entirely voluntary and guided by clear NPC protocols to ensure it remains positive and inclusive.

Cairde holds meetings in the school halla on a monthly basis, typically on the second Monday of each month. These meetings are friendly and informative, offering updates from the school’s In-School Leadership Team and opportunities for parents to share ideas and get involved. All are welcome to attend.

Cairde in Action

Our school does not request voluntary contributions; instead, Cairde’s fundraising efforts play a vital role in supporting events and activities that enrich the educational experience of our students.   In recent times, Cairde has proudly organised and run a number of highly successful school and community events, including:

• The Halloween Disco

• The Annual Christmas Raffle

• Family Bingo Night

• The Sponsored Walk

• The Family Fun Run

Funds raised through these events directly support a wide range of school projects and initiatives, all of which benefit our children and help foster a strong sense of community within Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann.

Our Current Project: A New Playground for Our School

Cairde is currently undertaking one of its most ambitious projects to date — fundraising for a new playground for Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann.  This exciting initiative aims to create a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging play space that will benefit all students for years to come. The playground will not only encourage physical activity and imaginative play but will also serve as a joyful hub for social connection and well-being.

As this is a significant project, it will require strong community support, creative fundraising, and plenty of teamwork — values that lie at the very heart of Cairde. Every contribution, idea, and helping hand makes a real difference as we work together to bring this vision to life.

Join Us

We warmly invite all parents and guardians to get involved with Cairde — whether by attending meetings, volunteering at events, or lending ideas and support. Together, we can continue to strengthen our school community and create lasting positive experiences for our children — both in the classroom and beyond.

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Cairde – Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann Parents’ Association
