Gaelscoil Mhainistir Na Corann Cork

Stair na Scoile School History

Bunaíodh Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann ar an 30ú Lúnasa 1999 nuair a tháinig grúpa tuismitheoirí le chéile chun oideachas tré mhéan na Gaeilge a lorg dá bpáistí. Bhí aitheantas sealadach tugtha don scoil agus 21 páiste ar an rolla ó Naíonáin Bheaga go Rang a Dó. Ceapadh an phríomhoide Dónal  Ó Murchú i Márta 2000. Ar an 19ú Meitheamh 2000 bhí oscailt oifigiúil na scoile acu leis an tAire Oideachais Micheál ó Máirtín. Tugadh aitheantas Buan don scoil in Éanáir 2021 le 42 páiste  ar an rolla.

Gaelscoil Mhainistir an Corann was founded in 1999 when a group of parents came together in an effort to provide education through the medium of Irish for their children in the area. The school received temporary recognition with 21 students on its roll book from junior infants up to second class. Dónal Ó Murchú was appointed as the principal in March 2000. On the 19th of June 2000 the school was officially recognized by the Department of Education and opened by the Minister of Education, Mícheál Martin.

Ceapadh an phríomhoide Mairéad Uí Fhloinn i Lúnasa 2003 agus Áine Ní Shúilleabháin mar leas phríomhoide i nDeireadh Fómhair 2003. I dtús báire bhíomar lonnaithe in Ionad an Phobail le seomraí réamhdhéanta mórthimpeall orainn. De bharr comhoibriú den scoth idir bhainisteoirí, mhúinteoirí agus thuismitheoirí, bhogamar go dtí ár bhfoirgneamh úrnua álainn anseo i mBán Sheáin i Lúnasa 2016. Is iad iardhaltaí na scoile ar oscail an scoil go hoifigiúil dúinn i dteannta an Easpag i Meitheamh 2017.

Mairéad Uí Fhloinn was appointed as Principal on August 2003 and Áine Ní Shúilleabháin as Deputy Principal in October 2003. The school was originally located in Ionad an Phobal and surrounded by pre-fabricated buildings. As a result of much work and cooperation between management, teachers and parents, over the years we finally moved and settled into our beautiful new building in Banshane in August 2016. The school was officially opened by past pupils and the Bishop in June 2017.

I Meitheamh 2019 bhí Comóradh 20 bliana againn sa scoil agus d'éirigh an príomhide Mairéad as an bpost i mí Lúnasa 2019. Ceapadh Keith Ó Brolacháin mar phríomhoide nua ó Mheán Fómhair 2019 go Feabhra 2022 nuair a bhog sé siar go Ciarraí mar phríomhoide ar scoil speisialta. Ceapadh Áine Ní Shúilleabháin mar príomhoide na scoile i Márta 2022 agus Róisín Ní Cheallaigh mar Leasphríomhoide na scoile in Aibreáin 2022. Don chéad uair riamh i Meán Fómhair 2023 bhí Rang Uathachais nua i bhfeidhm sa scoil agus trí Rang a Sé. Ós cionn fiche bliain níos déanaí tá breis is 30 múinteoir,7 chúntóir ranga sa scoil agus 560 páiste ag freastal ar an scoil. Ag obair i dteannta a chéile tá éacht ollmhór bainte amach ag pobal na scoile.

In June 2019 we had our 20-year celebration and said goodbye to Mairéad who retired in August. Keith Ó Brolacháin was appointed as Principal in September 2019 and continued in the role until February 2022 when he moved to Kerry to take up the position of Principal of a special school. Áine Ní Shúilleabháin was appointed as Principal in March 2022 and Róisín Ní Cheallaigh as the Deputy Principal in April 2022. In September 2023 we opened our first Autism Class and for the first time, we also had three 6th classes. Over 20 years later there are more than 30 teachers, 7 Additional Needs Assistants in the school and over 560 children attending. Working together as a school community we have achieved much.
