Mar ata leagtha amach insan Acht um Oideachais + Leasa Páistí 2000, rannóg 17, ‘’Tá dualgais dlithiúil ar thuisti a chinntiú go bhfuil a bpáistí ag freastal ar scoil gach lá go bhfuil an scoil ar oscailt agus go bhfuilid in ann a bheith i láthair’’.
Ag tógaint an ráiteas thuas san áireamh ba chóir do thuistí tuiscint nach féidir leis an bPríomhoide nó an Bord Bainistíochta cead a thabhairt den chleachtas do pháistí a bheith á dtógaint ar laethanta saoire le linn am scoile.
Beidh ar thuistí litir a shíniú agus é a sheoladh chuig an oifig má tá páistí ag dul ar laethanta saoire le linn am scoile. Cuireann an litir, le fáil thíos, in iúl go dtuigeann siad go bhfuil a gcuid dualgais dlithiúla á mbriseadh acu. Mar eolas daoibh tá sé de dhualgais ar an scoil aon pháiste a bheidh as láthair 20 lá nó níos mó a chur in iúl den TESS (Rannóg Thusla ag plé le tinrimh.)

School Attendance + holidays during term time
According to the Education Welfare Act, 2000, Section 17, ‘’Parents have a legal duty to ensure that their child who is attending school is at school on every day that the school is open, unless there is a genuine reason for him or her not to attend’’.
In light of the above statement, parents should understand that neither the Principal nor the BOM of GSMNC can give permission for holiday absences during term time and strongly discourage the practice of taking children out of school for holidays during term time.
Parents who wish to take their children on school holidays during term time must sign a letter stating that they fully understand that the practice is contrary to their legal obligation under the Education + Welfare Act, 2000 and that they further understand that should their child /children’s absence exceed 20 days in the school year that the school is obliged to report this to the TESS (Tusla Education Support Services).
